23. LDEO Rock and Ice Mechanics Lab

The mission of the LDEO Rock and Ice Mechanics Lab is to measure the physical properties (elasticity, friction, viscosity, attenuation) and reaction kinetics of Earth and Planetary materials. We have apparatuses that go to high temperature and high pressure to study crustal processes and cryogenic temperatures to test ice behavior and mission technology at terrestrial to icy satellite conditions. We have ice and rock sample fabrication and microstructural characterization facilities. We are open to collaboration!
